The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Presentation - 2018

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award  has been successfully  implemented as an international youth development  programme in Sri Lanka during the last 39 years  by the National Youth Award Division of the National Youth Services Council under the Ministry  of National Polices, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Sothern Province Development and Youth Affairs promoting, developing and empowering a large number of young people to become useful citizens.

 This most prestigious global  Award  inaugurated  in the United Kingdom based on the concept  of Prince Philip of the United Kingdom in  1956 has been  introduced   to Sri Lankan youth   by Mr. Charitha Ratwatte, Chairman, National Youth Services Council under the guidance of  current  Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe  as  Minster of Youth Affairs and Employment in 1980. It is currently operational  in 144 countries & territories in the world. 

The main organizations in the country including the disabled  community  and the young people in the Prison reformatory Centers.

The   awardees are entitled to the following benefits;

  1. Additional marks to enter national Universities and Colleges of Education
  2. Special recognition for  employment in the state and the private sector
  3. Opportunity to  develop  international links during their  young age

aim of this programme is to facilitate young people between the ages of 13 -  24 to spend their leisure  time in a meaningful  way by engaging in Volunteer services, skill development,  physical recreation and adventurous journeys to achieve the Gold, silver & bronze awards respectively.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is presently being implemented in 148 schools    & other Priority  for admission to overseas Universities

Young people who have successfully completed all activities of the award will receive 45 Golds, 188 Silvers and 518 Bronze Awards = 751 at the above Annual Award Presentation Ceremony this year.

Hon. Ranil Wickremesighe, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest for the Annual Award Presentation Ceremony to be held at the Temple Trees at 3.00 pm on the 31st July 2019.
