National Youth Thaipongal Festival Celebration 2023
The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Youth Federation, and the National Youth Services Council worked together to promote religious and national harmony among Sinhalese, Tamil, and Muslim youth living throughout the island, and to enable Sri Lankan youth to face the future with pride.
Mr. Rohana Dissanayake, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs, presided over the celebration of National Youth Thaipongal Day, which began at 6 a.m. on the 30th at the Kotahena Ponnambalam vaneswarar temple premises.
This was attended by 400 young people from all over the island. Sinhalese and Muslim youths were given the opportunity to witness and interact with all Hindu religious rites such as Pongal rice preparation, Hindu rituals, and drawing kolam patterns, among other things.
On this occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs K. Maheshan, Chairman/Director General of the National Youth Service Council, Dr. Thiran De Silva, Director (Development), Manjula Vidanaarachchi, Director (Administration and Training); Rashita Delapola, Deputy Director (Media) Jagath Liyanage, Deputy Director Priyantha Jayaratne, Conference Secretary Tharidu Navin, and other officials have attended the programme.
